Hi, I'm Dirk. I'm an artist. Self-taught. I've been painting with oils and acrylics for over 50 years. Landscapes, seascapes, cloudscapes & portraits, most in oil. About 10 years ago, I started what I now call my "Georgia O'Keefe Period:" Giant Irises & Roses, some with raindrops!

Last Christmas I received a digital camera for a "toy!" It was great fun to play with, but after awhile I noticed what good close-ups could be made of those digital images. I graduated to a "larger" camera for my birthday and started doing very seriously-close close-ups! A few of them were fantastic. The rest were easily deleted.

These cards are a simple evolution of my art. The early images are painted, slowly, laboriously, days wasted waiting for the paint to dry. The latter images are digitalized by a camera. I can take 50 digital images in an afternoon, and print the good ones that night. I see no discrepancy in still calling myself an artist. I'm still making pretty pictures of flowers. Some with raindrops! Only now I can capture & print lots more than I could ever paint!

I live with my best friend, Buddy Jr. an Aussie-Shepherd mix, in Carmichael, California, a cozy suburb of eastern Sacramento. Most of these pictures were taken within a mile of my home, with my trusty Olympus Camedia C-60 - 6.1, on my daily walks with BJ. It already takes incredible pictures, & I've barely begun to learn how to use it! Stay tuned!
